American, Canadian and British Champion APPELINE TOP ACE. Born: 15 September 1955.
Sire: American and Canadian Champion Gay Fellow of Geddesburg
Dam: Fany Free of Geddesburg.
From "Beagles and Beagling" by Douglas and Carol Appleton:
"Bred by Mr. J. J. Geedes and handled in Britain by the author (Douglas Appleton), he became truly an international champion. In America and Canada he won his title as an under-13-inch hound and in Britain under the breed standard definition the desirable minimum height, of 13 inches. He could be measured either way. His type is best described as by Bill Francis, a Cruft’s judge of beagles when awarding him best of breed, — ‘he is a pocket battleship’. The
hound was purchased by the author and authoress from Canada when over seven years of age but still obtained his title in Britain. The magnificent foreface, topline, shortness and set-on of stern together with great depth of body and beautiful legs and feet typify possibly the greatest beagle yet known of this type. It is interesting to
compare this type with the other great, ‘Triumph’ This is not to say that the other hounds pictured in this book have not their own greatness. It is interesting to note that this hound and American Champion Validay Happy Feller have a common male line from their grandparents."

"Another look at early American imports from the 50's and 60's. The Appeline kennel of Douglas and Carol Appleton had bought many of their top show hounds from hunting packsm but then went to the States for their next purchases. The first of these Appeline Dancer of Camerlyn. He produced Ch Derawuda Willing for Mr Watson and several other good winners.
Their next import Int. Ch Appeline Top Ace produced two Champions Derawuda Bashful and Forrardon Chance."
